The air conditioner cools while the engine is on, so if the outside temperature is 35ºC (very hot) and we turn it on at 16ºC, it is practically impossible for the air conditioner to reach that temperature; so if we have it on for 1 hour, then it will be running for 1 hour trying to reach 16ºC; probably it will never reach the temperature you ask for and we will always be at 20 or 22 degrees.
How to save then? If we put the air conditioning at 24ºC, maybe in about 15 minutes we reach that temperature (it is more feasible) and then the engine will turn off, stopping working but keeping the environment cool, when the device considers that it needs to be reactivated because the temperature is no longer 24 degrees, then it will turn on the engines to reach that temperature again. During the time the motor is off there is no consumption.
